What We're Building
PlaceCLT invests in the stories, spaces, businesses, and public places that shape Charlotte’s identity and sense of belonging

Cultural Heritage & Storytelling
We document, preserve, and share the stories that define Charlotte’s communities—especially histories that have been underrepresented or left out of traditional preservation efforts. This work may include oral histories, public storytelling, exhibitions, neighborhood narratives, cultural mapping, and programs that make Charlotte’s people, memory, and identity more visible.

Places & Preservation
We support the preservation and revitalization of Charlotte’s historic places, commercial corridors, and community anchors. This work helps protect architectural character, strengthen stewardship of historic assets, and provide tools, education, and resources for property owners, neighborhoods, and communities facing growth and reinvestment pressure.

Businesses & Belonging
We identify, celebrate, and support long-standing businesses that contribute to Charlotte’s cultural and economic heritage. These businesses are more than storefronts—they are gathering places, memory keepers, and neighborhood anchors. PlaceCLT helps preserve their stories, visibility, and role in the communities they serve.

Placemaking & Public Realm
We invest in community-driven projects that make public spaces more welcoming, beautiful, and connected to local identity. This may include public art, murals, bus stop improvements, plaza activations, creative installations, and other enhancements that turn everyday spaces into places of meaning, pride, and belonging.

Training & Restoration
We are building pathways for the next generation of preservation, design, and restoration leaders. Through historic trades training, restoration apprenticeships, and career-connected learning opportunities, this work helps preserve Charlotte’s physical heritage while creating jobs and skills tied directly to place-based work.

Our Future Work
PlaceCLT is building long-term capacity to support Charlotte’s identity, history, and public spaces for generations. Future work may include expanded cultural heritage programs, permanent endowment funding, neighborhood-based initiatives, and new partnerships that help ensure Charlotte grows with memory, meaning, and intention.
